Compatible PDA devices
« on: March 14, 2007, 02:32:04 pm »
Rule of thumb is that SeeYou Mobile will run on any Pocket PC device which is sold new today provided it is running the correct Operating system:

Compatible Operating system requirements
. Windows CE 3.0
. Pocket PC 2002
. Pocket PC 2003 (aka Windows Mobile 2003)
. Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
. Windows Mobile 5.0
. Windows Mobile 6.0

Compatible Processor types
. MIPS
. ARM
. Strong ARM
. X-Scale ARM

Compatible Displays
. Monochrome
. Color 240x320
. VGA 640x480

Compatible GPS
A separate page is available about how to connect Pocket PC to GPS devices.

Required Memory
Depends mostly on the size of the terrain map. Without the map it is ~500KB. You can control the size of the map through Mobile wizard in SeeYou.

If you have no clue about what the above means, let's try to break it down to what might be more fammiliar.

Compaq Aero 15xx and 21xx
SeeYou Mobile will run on these devices IF they are running Windows CE 3.0. It will NOT run on Windows CE 2.xx. It is generally possible to upgrade from Windows CE 2.xx to 3.0, however the availability of upgrade chips may be a problem.

These devices have monochrome or 256 color displays, old and slow MIPS processors. We suggest turning off the terrain map through Menu > Settings > Map > Terrain > Off.

Compaq/HP iPAQ
They are not all the same. There is lots of different models around, but all except 19xx will work with just about any GPS.
36xx, 37xx and 38xx are older models with lower speed processors, but do have a color screen. SeeYou Mobile runs well on these devices.
39xx, 22xx, 41xx, 43xx, 51xx and 55xx have newer, medium speed processors and brighter screens. They are the reccomended choice if you are buying used devices.
hx47xx has VGA resolution and is a very good device. It is only available used unfortunately.
19xx do not have a COM port available. They will only work with Bluetooth GPS. It will NOT work with most of the GPS devices, including all GNSS loggers we use in cockpits.

All other Compaq/HP iPaq devices are perfectly compatible with SeeYou Mobile

Other devices
SeeYou Mobile will run on any of the other Pocekt PC devices that have compatible hardware. In general, any device that came with at least Pocket PC 2002 operating system is compatible without a problem. Make sure it has a COM port, so you can use it in cockpit.

Re: Compatible PDA devices - HP6915 series

Hi,

may be just to help other people:

I installed SeeYou Mobile 2.75 on my HP6915 NL device (build in GPS antenna) and after a few settings it worked fine. The settings I used are (via menu, inputs):
- Serial input, Com port 7, baud rate 38400, parity none, bits 8, stop bit 1, no DTR or RTS ticked on.

Any plans to upgrade SeeYou Mobile for the Windows Mobile 6.0 platform in the future?

There's no need to update SeeYou Mobile. It works great out of the box. In fact from what we hear WM6 is a significant step forward for WM 5 users.

I have upgraded 2 iPaqs (4700) to Windows Mobile 6 (the privately written version). The iPaqs run much better than with WM5 and SeeYou Mobile runs great too.

I have just updated my 4700 to WM 6 but I am a little surprised to be unable to find a Backup/Restore Utility to allow me to easily restore from my pre-update backup - and also protect against loss if my battery goes flat.

Am I missing something?

If not, is there a backup utility available somewhere?

Thanks,

John Galloway

Today I turned on my WM6 4700 iPaq with SYM running and allowed the battery to go completely flat so the iPaq shut down.
When I plugged the charger in, the system re-booted and everything was still installed. So it appears that the memory is not wiped when power is lost. However, the internal  (back-up) battery did not flatten...

But you are possibly correct - I cannot find a back-up/restore facility in WM6

Can SYM use data from the built-in GPS of Ipaq 318?
Is Windows CE 5.0 (standard for Ipaq 31x devices) compatible with SYM?

I'm thinking of running SYM on an HTC Touch HD. However, the processor is not listed in the compatability list.

The processor for this device is:
Qualcomm® MSM 7201A™ 528 MHz

Does anyone know whether this will be compatable?

Thanks.

It's an ARM processor and HTC Touch HD is a quite good phone for SeeYou Mobile.

Hi Steve,
I have the trial version running on my HTC touch HD,
am currently stumped as to how to get into the menu's as the 4 nominal 'buttons' on the front of the phone are pretty much hardwired for phone functionality.
the gps works (com 4)

Andrej,
I know it's a PITA having peeps running your baby on so many platforms now, and having so many stupid questions asked so often . . . .
but,
how do I get into the menu system with no buttons?
(I have volume up/down that are not hardwired) and can bring up keyboard with up down / left right buttons which do work.

but am stumped at how to show the command bar or options screen , help, please . . .:-) ???

answering my own questions  ;D
if you tap the lower right 'navbox' (in the lower right corner)
the 'Menu' appears as if by magic (apparently there used to be a button for it there back in the day)

absolutely fantastic !

(when Mrs Airwave pays my credit card bill, I shall be having the license  ::))

I am so so so happy, one less piece of historic junk to lug around (the old Dell) and yet more tricks for the phone  ;D

Hi everybody

Somebody can tell me if See You works fine with Windows Mobile 6.5 or only with Windows Mobile 6.0?
I bought a Pda with WM5 and I want to upgrade the OS.

Thanks
