4.11, wrong airspace limits
« on: May 28, 2011, 12:31:00 pm »
Since the upgrade to 4.11 the vertical limits of most airspaces are confused and shown incorrectly. E.g. FL 10 instead of GND, FL25 instead of 2500ft MSL. Is there any solution to this problem?

Thanks Andrej, you´ve published 4.12 very quickly and this version is much better and more useful, but still not perfect.
It often reads e.g. 4501 instead of 4500. Just east of Barcelona the airspace lower boundary shows 984ft MSL instead of 1000ft MSL.

This is a rounding error in CUB files and is common to all airspaces. Altitudes in CUB files are saved in meters without decimals rather than feet. So if an airspace was originally given in feet, the conversion to meters will be up to 3 meters inaccurate unfortunately.

Andrej, I´ve never experienced the problem before, therefore I still think there´s some sort of bug in the new version.
I think it would be wise to use data in "feet" rather than to convert them to the metric system. The same goes for altimeters....use "feet" altimeters to stay clear of airspaces and let the software give you the metric altitudes for final glide calculations etc...

While I fully agree, it is a design failure - if you will - of the CUB format.
