Missing "height" with navman 3400
« on: April 03, 2005, 08:52:13 pm »
Last Friday I made a test flight with a navman 3400, IPAQ 3850 and SeeYou mobile. The position is o.k. but I am missing information about the “height”.
Used Settings:
Serial
Ports:Com5
Speed:57600
Parity: none
Bits: 8
Stop bit 1
Last sentence: auto

You can find the log-file at: http://www2.onlinecontest.org/olcphp/2005/dumpigc.php?olc=olc&igc=541xn6m1&dclp= eebad416625b10794cd3fcd5279d41ac

Is there a solution for this problem?

Regards,

Bert Bron

Hi Bert,

looks like SeeYou Mobile was unable to display altitude too, correct?

It could be a limitation of the GPS to provide altitude information through NMEA.

Please make a Terminal log through Menu > Settings > Hardware > Terminal > (let it run for a while when it has good Satellite coverage) > Save.

Send the Termlog.txt to our email. Thanks.

Bert's Navman was delivering RMC sentences only. To be able to use the height information from a GPS, it must send GGA sentences as well.

Hallo Bron
Im using a Navman 3400 without Problems. It delivers also the GGA sentences.
Try to Reset the Navman to default by using GPS Info 1.3 from the Navman Page.
Otherwise look for a Software to program GPS with Sirf Chipset, and enable the missing sentences.

I seem to have the same problem
I have only 'flown' the Ipaq5500/Navman 3450 in the car so far, but there is no height information displayed (although I can see the height in SeeYou on the PC afterwards)

I had a look at my termlog. Not a GGA record in sight.
Is there a fix for this (I'm awaiting a response from Navman)
I have no idea how to 'program a GPS with a sirf chipset'

I have found a solution.
se http://www.expansys.com/forumthread.asp?code=113072&thread=160
basically this refers to a Leadtek utility available from ftp://www.leadtek.nl/support/downloads/gps/Tools/WinCEMonitor.zip
One of the functions is to reset the GPS. Go to Tools and set the port setting to port 4 and 57600 (for a navman 3450) and select NMEA. If you then click on OK and go to Tools/command and select the GGA tab (plus any other you want) and hit OK, this resets the unit to produce those sentences. It did for me anyway.
Now when I start SeeYouM I get a height readout
Good luck

Thanks a lot Everybody!!!
After the answer of Andrej I had contact with Navman but it was not successful. I already thought that I had bad luck with my GPS. Therefore I did not checked this forum. Not very smart of me. With the help of you I have the "height" within a few minutes in SeeYouMobile!!
Thanks!!!
