No GPS Data from Flarm
« on: May 04, 2006, 09:23:40 pm »
I have used Seeyou Mobile together with Flarm so far, works very nice as GPS source. I use an Ipaq 3950.

I now upgraded to Seeyou Mobile 2.6, and to Flarm Version 3 (mandatory). Seeyou Mobile still works properly with Colibri as GPS source, but no more with Flarm. On the terminal screen of Seeyou Mobile I do see data coming in, but with strange symbols.

Hi Bert.

1. Please send a terminal log from the terminal window so we can see what you get from Flarm
2. What Port settings are you using with Flarm?
3. Are you connected to the extension port or data port on the Flarm?

This log does not contain GPS position. Please make the same test with antenna connected to Flarm when you are sure that Flarm has GPS OK. Both ways, this is a question for the Flarm support, not SeeYou Mobile.

As soon as you get NMEA data in addition to what you are seeing now, Flarm radar and other features will work as expected.

Extension port is the right port for sure, because that is where the data flows towards the Flarm Display. SeeYou Mobile simply uses the same data sent to Flarm Display.

I personally use extension port with LX FLARM-SPL-UNIT (see http://www.lxnavigation.si/avionics/accessories.cfm) to have both Display and PDA connected to the same Flarm.

I personally use extension port with LX FLARM-SPL-UNIT (see http://www.lxnavigation.si/avionics/accessories.cfm) to have both Display and PDA connected to the same Flarm.

Hmmm.... afaik, the "Original" Flarm with standard configuration only sends warning data ($PFLAU) over the extension port with 4800 baud (look at the log from filosy). Supposable, it's possible to configure this over the Flarm-Tool. In this case, it's necessary to set the baudrate of the extension display, too.

In my opinion, the best way is to use an y-adapter (link) at the main port of the Flarm unit. This solution provides data (by default GPS, pressure, traffic and warning @ 19200 baud) an 12 V for the DC-DC-converter. Alternative, you can use a K6 Anschlussboard or Komplettset ::)

Cheers, Falk
