Spanish airspace
« on: February 24, 2007, 07:56:00 pm »
I have reworked the Spanish airspace in OpenAir format. It includes the recent extension of the TMA Madrid. The TMA has VFR sectors with typical ceilings of 7500-8000 ft. This virtually kills the possibility to do the 1000+ km cross country flights for which places like Fuentmilanos is famous.
There are currently discussions going on with the Spanish ATC provider Aena which may lead to better VFR possibilities in Madrid TMA.
Therefor I have not yet included the current VFR sectors. If things change I will update the file.
The airspace is attached in OpenAir format. I also converted to .cub and submitted to the SeeYou team to upload it to the airspace section of this site.

Feel free to PM me for comments or additions.

EDIT: Removed this outdated airspace. See below for the most recent version.

Good news. An agreement has been reached between the Spanish GA community and the Spanish ATC provider AENA. There will be new VFR sectors defined in the TMA Madrid which makes cross country flying around the Guadarama possible again.
I will work on the new airspace and upload it when ready.

The gliding sectors in TMA Madrid have been activated between june 15th. and september 15th. 2007 using NOTAM's. Attached the latest version of the airspace of Spain. Discussions continue to make these glider sectors permanent.

As always, read the release notes in the file.

Currently discussions are going on about permanent changes in the TMA Madrid that will improve the possibilites for cross country flying from fields like Fuentemilanos. As soon as these changes are accepted, I will adapt the airpaces accordingly. Stay tuned.

Hello Wolfram,
The file that is linked to the first post in this thread is in OpenAir.
Be aware however that he file is already from 2007. I have not found any time to update it after that, so be sure to check with the latest available maps.
Regards,
Ton
