Hi Hugo,

I´ve encountered two items in the belgium airspace file which are wrong or misleading.

1.
The airspace around Luxembourg on german territory is not class D, it is class E from 1000ft AGL up to FL100. The file declares class D from 2500ft MSL up to FL135.

2.
A real glidersector does not exist for Konz-Koenen glidersite.
As mentioned above, the airspace is class E and therefore one does not need a clearance for this airspace when flying VFR.
And of course, that "glidersector" is not a Danger area.    ::)

I would prefer, if you (or Stéphane) could delete this two items for the next version of the belgium airspace.
Thanks in advance

I´ll send you a personal message and try to attach a file with pictures.

Pete

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your interest.

About the Luxemourg TMA, sectors 1A and 1B are of course class D, but all airspaces Luxembourg TMA 2 (from A to F) are correctly mentionned class E.

About Konz Koenen, it is mentioned in the "ENR 5.5 AERIAL SPORTING AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES " of the Belgian AIP, as well as the parachuting areas. It seemed appropriate to have them indicated as danger areas, but i agree with you that gliders should not be warned for gliders. However these files seems also to be used for VFR motorpilots, and hence it is maybe not so bad to leave it as is.

Regards,
Hugo

Hi Hugo,

sorry, but I cannot follow your arguments for the Konz-Koenen "Danger area".

As there is no airspace in that area where you need an ATC-clearance, the Glidersector Konz is misleading. This area is only an agreement betwenn Konz and ELLX-APP that IFR flights will be kept above that airspace (when active).
If "AVGAS-junkies" use this file, there might be the opinion that gliderflying is only permitted in that "glidersecor". But that ´s definitely not correct.
I had email conversation with the president oft he gliderclub at Konz-Koenen. He also requested to delete this glidersector from the benelux-file.
In germany we have glidersectors in TMZ, CTR, class D and class C airspace (and ED-R 116). That´s all airspace where one needs an ATC-clearance if the glidersector is not active. In class E one can fly without any radio contact to ATC if he/she maitains VMC.
All over germany glider flying (and all other VFR flying) is permitted up to FL100. Restrictions only apply where class C, D,TMZ or ED-Rs are established.

I do not understand, why airspace over germany ("glidersctor Konz") is described in belgium AIP. Germany AIP only contains airspace over germany. All descriptions are ending on the germany boundary.

The ELLX-TMA which I mentioned before is part of the french file. Sorry that I have not checked that correctly.
Can you please get in contact with Regis Kuntz (ktz<at>free.fr),who is the creator of the french file, and ask him if he could delete this piece of airspace from his file?
Thanks

In principle, each airspace file should only contain airspace of ist originating country.
It does not make sense, if the french file contains airspace over germany or Luxembourg, etc.

Regards

Pete
