missing flight files, anyone else having this issue?
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:32:17 am »
Hi, I'm trying to duplicate a small bug I've noticed with the AV8OR.  the support team needs my log files to duplicate the issue, problem is: seems like I haven't been receiving a SYM IGC file in the Flights folder, even though the enable logging feature is turned on.

I use a Colibri to drive SYM, so haven't had a need to use the igc file in the SD card, until now.

the last flight written to the SD card was on July 24, 2010.  more recent flights are missing.

Anyone else having this issue?

As for the small bug: I've noticed that on long flights, the flights stats page goes blank as if its been reset [or that it forgot that I'm flying] (the other stat pages work, its just the 'flight' page).  And, the average vario navbox seems to get stuck on the last value before the issue takes place.  The current Vario navbox still works fine.

The issue happened again in todays flight, so as long as I can get a igc file out then we can get the support team working on this.  Trouble is I can't get a file out, so thats the first items to tackle.

Not me. I have been using my AV8OR igc files recently without problems.

You have probably checked all this, but have you looked at the files settings to make sure log files are still going to the folder you expect, and have you checked that that they are not elsewhere on the SD card? Do you think there could be a problem with your SD card? Did you upgrade the device's firmware last year?

yes, everything is pointing to the SD card.  I even went so far to make sure the physical tab on the SD card is set to 'unlock'.

I upgraded the firmware about a year ago, but I'll have to check if its the lastest.  I did upgrade the AV8OR software to version 2.0 from the Bendix site about the time that the new files stopped being written.  But that was with the Bendix SD card and not the SYM SD card...  although I do remember that I had to perform the gps refresh trick to get back to the 1 second refresh rate afterwards.

thanks for the memory jog, i'll keep investigating every week after I make a flight.

I just had a look at the Bendix King site. So far as I can see there has been no firmware upgrade since the one in Spring 2009.

Has there been a worthwhile update to the Go Fly application? I did update the Go Drive application in 2009 because of a significant bug, but to be honest I now only use the AV8OR as a platform for SYM.

Looks like I have the log files writing again.

Not sure what happened, but the paths to the folders looked like this:
\StorageCard\GoFly\..\Flights\

Instead of this:
\StorageCard\Flights\

Actually all of the paths in the "Files" tab looked like the \StorageCard\GoFly\..\InsertDestinationFolderHere\ variety.  the path is legit of course in Linux land, but I have never used a 'down and back up a directory' syntax with Windows/DOS or CE devices.  Once I changed all of them to be proper paths, then it seems like the AV8OR will write my log files.

Now I have to get the unit to make the same issue I experienced before this mix up.  Possibly they were linked as I dont believe anyone else has had the issue.  Time will tell.

Overall I'm very happy with the AV8OR for SYM.

As for the GoFly software (ver 2.0) update from Honeywell, the main change is you get a sythetic 'glass cockpit' view showing turn rate, Altitude, etc.  An little bit of a mini-HUD maybe?.  Airport diagrams (for $ subscription), etc.

I upgraded primarily because the wife is starting IFR training and mentioned she might be looking for a portable moving map to move between the aircraft shes renting.  I wanted her to try out the AV8OR and see how she likes it.  We've used it a couple times for VFR flights and she seemed to like it.

If she Really likes it, as long as we're both not flying the same day, we'll be fine.  Currently its been a 99.9% soaring computer with the 0.1% power flying unit.  This will be another 'time will tell' scenario...  but it is pretty slick to swap out my SYM SD card for the BendixKing SD card, reboot and you're ready to go.
